What Would You Do ?? Would You Start a Business Now ??

I have been thinking about this for the last few days, and so I thought I would ask everyone of their opinion of this question. What would you do, knowing what direction this country is headed, if the opportunity came about for you to start a business in the next few weeks. ?? So the question is, Would you start a business??

I have many years of experience in airline catering. I have spent a lot of time looking into starting my own business. Working long hours is not a problem or working 6 or 7 days is not a problem.  I would start as a consultant, and expand from there. God may have opened the door to this venture, but I am not sure what to do.

I am finding it hard to plan anything long term, knowing that our world and our country is changing, but not for the better. Please feel free to leave your opinion here or email me at robsrangers11 at yahoo.com.

Thank you for your time and you opinion.

  1. We knew in 2009 when Senior retired the direction this country was going towards, but that really did not stop us from starting our small business, and despite all the nay sayers, we have had much success, and doing much better then we expected, to the point that I still have not had to go back to work.

I have however been kicking around the idea of opening my own "survival store" I think in these times it would do really well. Plus in my area its predominatly redneck and rural...

    2. we have a lawn and landscape business. Our main focus is on commercial properties, like housing developments. But we also have a few residential clients, those good folks have been with us since the beginning and we just don't have the heart to stop their service. Because back when we first started it was them that kept us going through the summer. We also do not have a "crew" its pretty much just senior. I do help out in spring time with re-sods,and mulch jobs... He has hired a few helpers, but as good as they are, they never seem to work out. We were also lucky to pay cash for all our equipment, nothing is financed, so all payments goes right back in to our pocket.

  2. If you can be flexible and adapt do it. I would start my own business or would have if I could have afforded to go without insurance for a bit during start up. That wasn't in the cards then but soon won't be an issue so who knows.

  3. I think it's still just as important to plan for today's life as it is to plan for "what if's" in the future. If I had the chance to open a business that I felt would do good and grow in this economy - I would do it. If we all just sat around waiting for the world to end, or the SHTF, it really would happen. I still teach my kids, and talk to them about going to college, even though I don't know if it will really be a viable option by the time they are all college age, but I would be doing them a grave disservice to not include college as a possible option - what if things don't get "that bad".....I hope the point I am trying to make is coming across right....I'd hate to see anyone miss an opportunity because they were afraid of might happen, that's just not how I want to live my life. There's a saying - expect the best, but plan for the worst....I guess that sums up how I feel about it.

  4. Due to the economy I had to close my business which was a mail order plant nursery. I could not just set my plants on a shelf and wait for the economy to pick up. Plants and greenhouses has to be taken care of daily regardless if anything is selling anything or not.

If you have a "product" that will sell during this downfall....GO for it...I would. I haven't sold any of my greenhouses or equipment. I am hoping to start over when the economy turns around.

  5. Me and my wife have been making goat's milk soap every weekend for the last month. We hope to do the weekend farmer's markets and make some cash for more preps. She also let me get into beekeeping with the idea that we sell our "local" honey at the market and other health food outlets in the fall. Furthermore, I'm getting my egg license here in CO so I can sell eggs. It's not really one business that I go after, but a lot of small home businesses that add up to a profit. And as I tell my wife, if the SHTF doesn't happen, we still have a residual income from a home based business.

  6. An airline catering consultant? I've seen too many small retail businesses drain the heart, soul, and savings of want to be entrepreneurs. You might have a working business model, just be careful. Having experience, a good work ethic, intelligence, and a good credit rating does not insure success. That being said, if my health would let me, I'd open my own business in a heartbeat.

  7. Thank you everyone for your opinion and comments. I have a lot of thinking and praying on this matter. I see this as an opportunity, but not sure how to proceed with this.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.
